What's
on my iPod
Recently,
we gave away iPods on the air. My boss asked if we would fill
up the iPods with some of our favorite songs. I took my task very
seriously and put 101 of my favorite songs on 10 iPods. If you
won one, congrats. If you didn't, click
here for the list of songs. Mind you, these aren't my top
101 songs. Just a sampling of what kind of songs get me going.
Below
you'll find some songs that I'd recommend downloading at some
point.

Army of Me, "Come Down To DC"
This is a band from DC that I REALLY hope breaks national this year. When I bonded with this song, it made me realize how much I've connected with my adopted hometown. As a special treat for coming to this page, here is an (almost) exclusive acoustic version of the song...and keep an ear out for this band.
Familiar 48, "The Question"
This song was a minor (very minor) hit about 4 years ago. It's typical rock music but I used to see this band all the time in Philly so I've got a special connection to the song.

Juliana
Hatfield, "Forever"
The
CD is called In Exile Deo and it's awesome. This is the
best song on it. It's about an unnamed addiction so it works for
everyone...cuz we're all addicted to something.
PJ
Harvey, "You Said Something"
Obviously
you know the name. But are you a fan? I'm not, but I dig this
song. It feels like summer. Not the fun party-type summer. But
the heat, the sweat, the humidity. It's that hot day where all
you can do is sit on the couch with your shirt off thinking cool
thoughts. The GOOD part of summer.
Robbie
Williams, "Lazy Days"
Nobody,
and I mean NOBODY, is cooler than Robbie Williams. This is the
ultimate feel good song. It's impossible to be down when listening
to this song. Go ahead and try.
The
Streets, "Fit But You Know It"
"Don't
touch me, don't touch me!" If you've hung aournd me the last
few months you've heard this phrase a few thousand times. Cuz
as you know, I'm wannabe Euro-trash baby!!
Some
Girls, "Necissito"
More
Juliana. Can you tell I"m on a Juliana Hatfield kick?
Custom,
"Beat Me"
You
may remember him from the song "Hey Mister" but this
is a little different. Good mellow vibe with a catchy hook. It's
a staple on mixed tapes that I make for friends.
Radiohead,
"Everything In It's Right Place"
Speaking
of mixed tapes. If you are going mellow, ALWAYS start off with
this song. Not my favorite Radiohead song (Morning Bell or
Pyramid Song would have to be my top two) but definitely
a song to let the listener know we are going hardcore on this
tape (and when I say tape I of course mean CD).
Automatic
Black, "N.T.I.L."
This
is why the music industry sucks. This band makes an absolutely
incredible album. Their label sits on their CD for a year and
half waiting for the perfect time to release it. And just before
that time comes, consolidation happens and the new label drops
the band before the album is released. Great song...good luck
finding it.
Coldplay,
"Warning Sign"
I
mentioned this song on my greatest album page. One of the best
songs ever?? It's a strong statement but that's how much I love
this song. Can't beat a break up song with a happy ending. It
gives knuckleheads everywhere a reason for optimism.
Stroke
9, "Letters"
I
always sing this in a "yeah I played you" sort of way
but really, I'm thinking how much I've fucked up in the past...and
how much it sucks.
